Ronaldo’s 2009 Calendar - Which Segment is this Aimed At?

Our recent blog piece on the effect of the credit crunch on the Playboy bunnies proved popular with many of our male readers (who were looking for a topical example of the need to cut fixed costs during an economic downturn).  To balance things with our female blog readers, here’s a question you might pose in relation to Cristiano Ronaldo’s new product launch - his 2009 calendar.

It was perhaps only a matter of time before football’s Mr Vain launched his own calendar.  However it has certainly caused a stir with one of the questions being asked - who is expected to buy it (or even display it?).

One argument, examined in The Sun today, is that the calendar will appeal most to the gay community.  Ronaldo is, apparently, quite an icon amongst that segment.  Female fans might also be tempted to add the product to their Christmas shopping lists.  But what of younger fans?  My youngest is a big ManU and Ronaldo fan, but I’d think twice before allowing him to have one.  If the imagery was of Ronaldo in action at Old Trafford then fine; but as you can probably see, it isnt.

Over to you girls!
