Retro innovation at Porsche - Where does it sit with Ansoff?
Recommend on Google+

Well, here goes… my first post! I am very much into the gadgets & technology scene and so I will attempt to create myself a USP by only blogging about such things.
Porsche have just announced a new accessory for their 911 cars made between 1963 and 1977 - a retro-styled radio head unit with full touch-screen sat-nav capabilities! According to the Porsche catalogue, the unit “...still carries the classic two-knob design with minimal buttons and chrome accents, but the radio dial has been replaced with a subtle navigation screen. This will fit all 911s from 1963 possibly until as late as 1977. It should also be a good fit for the first generation 912 and perhaps the 914.”
I am very interested to hear what colleagues and students think about this - will it be a raging success or will the old school 911 owners shun its modernity and high (€595) asking price? Could be an interesting resource for a lesson on extension strategies, as well as Ansoff’s matrix, but is this market penetration or product development?
