Pining for Success - Heston’s mince pie innovation

Here is a neat story about Heston Blumenthal’s latest crazy culinary creation, which is a good example of innovation in practice.

Last Christmas, Heston’s Christmas Puddings flew off of Waitrose’s shelves within days, leading to an e-bay market for the puddings in which some sold for up to £250, despite a retail price of £13.99.  This in itself is a great example to use for supply and demand in action.

So how do you top that (apart from with brandy sauce obviously!)?

This year Heston has come up with some mince pies that will smell and taste of pine trees.  The secret lies in a sachet of sugar infused with pine needle oil which should be sprinkled on the pies before cooking.
