Nestle completes takeover of Jenny Craig’s - great synergies???

In a process that started in 2006, the food giant Nestle has just completed the full international takeover of weight loss company Jenny Craig’s by purchasing the company that controls the franchise in Australia and New Zealand.
Of course, the cynical among us might say that it is now in their interests to fatten the consumer up through their Nestle arm and then attempt to slim them down via their Jenny Craig’s arm, clipping the ticket both ways.
Chief executive Patti Larchet takes the noble approach, saying “At Jenny Craig, we are committed to addressing the obesity epidemic and helping our clients lead healthier lives”. However, a Nestle spokesperson lets on what their strategy is by saying “Chocolate in moderation can be a fun part of a balanced diet, as a treat…..however, the rise of obesity is a major public health concern around the world, and one which we share, and the Jenny Craig acquisition allows us to help many of our consumers”.
