ITV under the cosh
Interesting article in the Telegraph speculates that the under-pressure broadcaster is preparing to sell its digital assets - including Friends Reunited…
Back in 2006, Greg Dyke led a bid for ITV valuing the shares at 130p. You can currently buy ITV shares for less than 30p.
Back in 2006, ITV paid the founders of Friends Reunited £175m for their business. The Telegraph reports that ITV is now looking to see the business. How much is it worth now? I suspect not that much given the rise of Facebook and other more social networking sites.
ITV is under pressure from so many sides, its hard to see how the business can recover in the short-term.
A useful exercise for A2 students would be to compare and contrast the strategy and results of ITV and BSkyB. There was an excellent interview with BSkyB CEO Jeremy Darroch here recently.
