Often a visual stimulus is a great way to make the point in a business lesson - and here is a terrific resource you could use to illustrate the concept of organic growth…

On July 2, 1962, Walton opened the first Wal-Mart Discount City store located at 719 Walnut Ave. in Rogers, Arkansas.  The rest, as they say, is history.  Wal-Mart is now the largest private employer and the largest grocery retailer in the United States.

The data visualisation shows how the store opening programme operated.  A small green circle appears each time a Walmart is opened during the relevant year.  Watch how the openings were slow at first, concentrated around a limited geographical area - then spread like wildfire.  The classic case study in rapid and successful organic growth.
