A cracking good article for business students in the Guardian today tells the story of a really good case study on diversifcation…

Great material for A2 Business Strategy this.

Entertainment retailer HMV (which also owns bookseller Waterstones) is diversifying into cinema - with a joint venture with a small, independent cinema chain (and film distributor) Curzon.  The first cinema in the venture has opened, located in the spare space on top of HMV’s store in Wimbledon.

The Guardian article is packed full with business studies terms and materials - well worth a read and possibly printing off for a lesson.

The HMV / Curzon joint venture website is here.

I would also recommend downloading the tremendous PowerPoint presentation provided by the CEO of Vue Cinemas (Tim Richards) at the 2009 Business Teacher National Conference.
