HBOS on the brink of takeover

Robert Peston, who broke the story of Northern Rock, has just announced news of a possible takeover of HBOS by Lloyds TSB as HBOS shares fall significantly again on the Stock Exchange this morning…

HBOS shares have been under tremendous pressure as investors and speculators focus on the business as possibly the next big name to go under. Peston has blogged on the BBC this morning about a proposed takeover (described as a “merger”) that would mean the end for HBOS as an independent business.

This is a major story in the UK banking sector and will be well worth following over the next few hours and days…

The question is, which bank will be next?  My gut feel is the RBS
