BUSS3 Workshop Programme for December 2010

We’re ready to rumble with our BUSS3 revision workshops, starting next week at Fulham, Bristol and Birmingham. For December 2010 we’ve once again created a brand new exam-style case study (this time on the hotel industry) which we use throughout the day to help students build their confidence and exam technique.
Here is the case study introduction to give you a flavour of the business. The remaining workbook contains a series of supporting data extracts and exam-style exhibits which we’ll use to help students practice their skills. Details of what we’ll cover during the day are shown below:
The workshop focusses on using the case study to help build student exam skills - particularly those of application, analysis and evaluation. The new hotel case study covers key BUSS3 topics such as:
- Conflicts between functional and corporate objectives
- Analysing market attractiveness from market data
- Internal and external influences on marketing objectives
- The use of test marketing in new product development
- Analysing financial statements to identify business issues
- Methods of allocating capital expenditure
- Cost minimisation strategies
- Profit centres
- Delayering
- Centralisation v decentralisation
- Investment appraisal
- Economies of scale
- Choosing business locations
- The role of innovation in creating competitive advantage
- Expanding a multi-site business into international markets
Each BUSS3 workshop runs from 10.30 (10.45 for London) to 3.30pm, with a team of 4-5 experienced AQA teachers and examiners leading students through a series of exam-style tasks and exercises based on the case study.
