Building a tourist facility on the top of a mountain
Recommend on Google+
A fascinating case study of how to invest in a popular tourist destination. The new visitor centre at the summit of Snowdon has been built at a cost of £8.4m, but not without a huge effort by the people involved and despite opposition from some stakeholder groups…
Personally I think the visitor centre looks terrific and it will be another reason to make the effort to walk to the top. The £8.4 million investment might sound a lot, but the construction challenge was as tough as any, and the new facility will soon be serving arounf 650,000 customers per year. Surely the cash payback will be good.
